On 17 January 2013, Executive Director of the Association "Gender Alliance for Development", Mrs.Mirela Arqimandriti, visited campus 1 of “Barleti” University, for an open lecture with students on "Empowerment of women entrepreneurs."
According to Mrs.Arqimandriti, women today are forming an increasingly important part of the SME sector, which is the main source of new jobs. Mrs. Arqimandriti explained that women in business are a recent phenomenon in Albania. In Albania, women still continue to face entrepreneurial obstacles compared to men.
Mrs. Arqimandriti explained that challenges women face today come from several factors such as: fear of the initial amount of money to start a business; lack of knowledge and ability of doing business; gender roles in traditional family where entrepreneurship is an area of dominated by men; lack of programs to promote self-employment.
Students were focused during the discussion, showing interest for the selected topic, and this was indicated not only by the questions raised but also the desire to contact Mrs. Arqimandriti even after the presentation.
