The Faculty of Medicine at Barleti University recently participated in an international Health Explorers online session hosted by Valladolid. This session explored the ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) through the lens of television and film, offering students an interdisciplinary platform to analyze contemporary healthcare challenges.
During the session, students selected films and series depicting healthcare environments, engaging in structured discussions around three core pillars:
- The humanization of care in the digital age.
- The evolving role of technology and healthcare professionals.
- The systemic impact of technological innovations on healthcare.
The dialogue extended beyond technical aspects to address a foundational question: What must remain essentially human in an increasingly digital healthcare landscape?
Several reflections captured the spirit of the discussion:
“The story of medicine is not about the sophistication of the tools, but the humanity of the hands that hold them.” “Technology can’t replace human empathy.” “Grief cannot be deleted with a click.”
While technological advancements continue to demonstrate impressive performance, the discussion emphasized a critical dimension that cannot be automated: communication built on trust. Effective healthcare depends not only on diagnostic precision, but also on creating a safe, human-centered environment where patients feel heard. Without this relational presence, even the most advanced systems cannot fully serve complex human needs.
As a next step, the Faculty of Medicine at Barleti University will soon travel to Valladolid for an in-person session on innovation. This visit will further strengthen international academic collaboration and advance the dialogue on responsible, human-centered innovation in healthcare.
Through initiatives such as Health Explorers, Barleti University continues to promote interdisciplinary learning, ethical reflection, and global engagement in shaping the future of healthcare.
